MNI DATA BRIEF: EZ Production Down; Components Shortages Bite

(MNI) London

Eurozone industrial production fell by a more-than-expected 1.1% in June, suggesting that shortages of components, particularly semiconductors, are depressing the output of final goods. Capital goods fell by 1.5%, extending a 2.5% decline in May, while intermediate goods rose by 0.1%, matching the increase in durable consumer goods. Non-durables were the only bright spot in a grim report, rising by 1.6% between May and June.

Amongst member states, German output fell by an already-reported 1.0%, while French output rose 0.4% and Spanish output by 0.1%. Over the year to June, total eurozone output rise by 9.7%, below the expected 10.3%, following 20.5% rise in May.
