MNI DATA IMPACT: UK Shop Prices Continue to Contract in July

BRC Jul Shop Price Index -0.1% Y/Y, -0.2 M/M
LONDON (MNI) - UK Shop Prices decreased for the second consecutive month in
July since October 2018. According to the BRC-Nielson Shop Price Index, prices
fell by 0.1% on the year in July, unchanged from June.
On a monthly basis, shop prices fell 0.2% compared with a decline of 0.4%
in June.
The fall in overall inflation was mainly driven by a decline in Non-Food
prices, down 1.2% on the year and 0.4% on the month.
Weak consumer confidence kept discretionary spending under pressure, with
retailers continuing to offer deep price cuts.
Food inflation eased slightly led by weaker global food prices. Prices grew
1.7% on the year and 0.1% on the month.
