MNI GLOBAL MORNING BRIEFING: Riksbank, French CPI In Focus

Thursday throws up a full day of data on both sides of the Atlantic, with French inflation likely a standout.

The session kicks off at 0700BST, with the release of the 2nd read of Q1 UK GDP and the Jan-Mar current account balance. GDP is expected to confirm growth at 08% Q/Q and 8.7% Y/Y -- boosted by comparison to a weak Q1 2021. The current account will likely be GBP-39.5 billion versus GBP-7.3 billion.

That will be followed at 0730BST by Swiss retail sales, French PPI, CPI and consumer spending, then the Swiss KOF at 0800BST. French CPI is expected to rise 0.7% m/m and 5.7% y/y (5.2% y/y in May). Harmonised CPI is seen rising 6.5% y/y versus 5.8% in May.

RIKSBANK TO HIKE

At 0830, the latest interest rate decision from the Riksbank is due, with expectations for a 50 bps hike in June to 0.75%.

The full MNI markets team preview has also been released.

German unemployment data (0855bst) is forecast to flatline at 5.0%, with eurozone unemployment (10BST) seen unchanged at a record low 6.8%

US data sees jobless claims and personal income data released at 1330BST, with Canadian GDP at the same time. At 1445, the MNI Chicago Report is due, which will likely show a decline to 58.0 in June from 60.3 in May.

Policymaker comments are thinner on the ground after the rich pickings from the week's Sintra conference, but ECB President Christine Lagarde is expected to speak.
