MNI POLICY: China To Act Over Closed U.S. Consulate: Official

MNI (London)
BEIJING (MNI) - China will take necessary measures responding to the order
from the U.S. to close its consulate in Houston, Texas in the next 72 hours, an
official said Wednesday.
"We urge the US to immediately revoke this erroneous decision. Should it
insist on going down this wrong path, China will react with firm
countermeasures," said Wang Wenbin, spokesman at the Ministry of Foreign
Affairs, in a statement posted online.
"The US far outnumbers China when it comes to diplomatic missions and
staff," Wang said in response to U.S. claim of claims lack of reciprocity in
relations with China without giving the reason why the consulate was ordered to
close.
Wang also said the U.S. move has "seriously violated international law" and
China strongly condemned the "outrageous and unjustified move" sabotaging
China-US relations.
