MNI POLICY: China to Aid Pig Production, Sell Pork Reserves

BEIJING (MNI) - The National Development and Reform Commission, China's top
planner, will support pig breeding and sell pork from reserves to ease soaring
prices and cool inflation, a spokeswoman Meng Wei said at a briefing on the
economy on Wednesday. Here are her major points:
     - The NDRC, responsible for checking prices, will ensure food costs under
control next month when the country celebrates its 70th anniversary of founding
in a week-long holiday.
     - Investment in railway projects totaled CNY449.6 billion in the first
eight months, about the same as the same period of last year. The NDRC targets
CNY800 billion rail investment this year.
     - China's job market is under some pressure from the trade spat with the
U.S. The NDRC will stabilize employment by encouraging start-ups, help migrant
workers to create businesses back home and boost vocational training.
