Free AccessMNI POLICY: China-US Trade Deal Should Be Enforceable: Premier
By Iris Ouyang
HAINAN (MNI) - Any trade deal between China and the U.S. should be
enforceable, Chinese Premier Li Keqiang told a group of company executives,
economists and reporters.
Here are major points from his remarks in Hainan:
--"We can't break our promises, that's not a stable bilateral
relationship," Li said. "We want the result (of trade talks) to be enforceable,
and to make the China-U.S. relation sustainable."
--Li said he hopes for a win-win result from trade talks, favouring both
countries. "As to the trade frictions between China and the U.S., I always think
we should negotiate," he said. "If you let me make a judgment on the current
status, I would say both sides hope, and China hopes, to reach a win-win trade
deal, and we are making efforts in this aspect."
--"We are optimistic about the outlook" of the bilateral relation in the
long term, Li said, though noting possible fluctuations ahead. Both economies
are so interconnected that they have to resolve their trade conflicts, Li said
"If we have problems in trusting each other, we should tackle them in time."
--Li reiterated China's determination to stick to reform and opening up its
economy. He said that this year's tax cuts will be strictly implemented.
