Monday 16 September:

  • Italy-United Kingdom: Italian PM Giorgia Meloni hosts her British counterpart Sir Keir Starmer in Rome. Meloni and Starmer are set to discuss, among other issues, plans to tackle illegal immigration. Meloni’s agreement with Albania which sees some asylum seekers processed in the Balkan country is seen to have contributed to a 60% decrease in boat crossings arriving in Italy. Some on the left of Starmer’s Labour party have spoken out against seeking advice from Meloni’s conservative government.
