Modest Pressure As Evans Changes RBA Call

AUSSIE BONDS

Note that both Aussie bonds and the IR strip have backed away from best levels in recent trade, presumably on the circulation of the previously flagged note from Westpac chief economist Bill Evans, who now looks for a back-to-back 50bp hikes over the next couple of RBA meetings, while his terminal rate forecast has been adjusted slightly higher (to 2.60%, which he sees being hit in February) as a result. Both Aussie bond futures and the IR strip remain comfortably above Wednesday’s settlement levels.
