More Qatari LNG Being Shipped on FOB Basis

The amount of Qatari LNG shipped on FOB terms rather than delivered has risen, according to Qatar’s Energy Minister Saad Al-Kaabi, cited by Bloomberg.

  • Attacks by Houthi militants on vessels transiting the Red Sea in retaliation for Israel’s war in Gaza.
  • As voyages around the Cape of Good Hope are taking longer, it is lowering the availability of Qatari-operated vessels and boosting the appeal of FOB cargoes handled by third party freight.
  • One of the reasons is also QatarEnergy’s increased trading operations. The company aspires to become the world’s largest LNG trader, although it declined to say how much trade the desk was handling.
