Morning Summary: Hungary can vaccinate 70% of its population by early June

HUNGARY
  • Even though the daily cases seemed to have find their peak at the start of the month with the 7DSMA of daily new Covid cases down from 8,300 to 5,200 in the past 7 days, and a quarter of the people having received a least a first dose of a vaccine, doctors have been questioning the government's decision to lift some restrictions, criticizing that politicians are using their own metric, which is not in line with the severity of the health crisis.
  • In a weekly interview on public radio on Friday, PM Orban said Hungary can vaccinate 70% of the population (7mil people) by early June (MTI/BBG).
  • Yesterday, industrial production came in significantly higher than expected in February at +3.9% YoY (vs. -0.9%), up from -2.8% the previous month.
  • February retail sales came in lower than expected this morning at -5.9% (vs. -2.2% exp.), down from revised -1.9% in January.
  • As expected, CPI inflation continues to trend higher amid rising fuel price, increasing to 3.7% in March (up from 3.1% the previous month).
  • No important economic data are coming out today.
