Muhyiddin Concedes Defeat As Anwar Looks To Secure Two-Thirds Majority Support

Perikatan Nasional leader Muhyiddin Yassin congratulated Pakatan Harapan's Anwar Ibrahim for becoming Prime Minister and said that his party will serve in a check-and-balance role in the Dewan Rakyat. His speech signalled acceptance of Anwar's victory in the race for prime ministership, while distancing Perikatan from the emerging unity government.

  • Speaking in the afternoon of his first day in office, Anwar said he was preparing to unveil a leaner Cabinet with lower salaries. He also announced that regional party Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS) has agreed to join his unity government, which will give his administration a two-thirds parliamentary majority.
