NATGAS
China is now importing record volumes of pipeline gas, Interfax said.
- China’s pipeline natural gas imports rose 14% on the year to 6.79 bcm in July, a new monthly high, GACC data showed.
- China received pipeline imports from five countries: Russia, Kazakhstan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan and Myanmar.
- Pipeline gas import increases have been boosted by the ramping up of flows via the Power of Siberia pipeline linking China with Russian gas.
- LNG imports rose just 4% on the year to 6.5m mt (8.51 bcm) in July. LNG has been relatively more expensive compared with pipeline supplies.
- Overall natural gas imports into China in July were 15.29 bcm, up 8% on the year, the second highest monthly total after Nov. 2023’s 16.5 bcm.
