Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has stated that Israel has set a date for the start of an IDF ground operation in the southern Gazan city of Rafah.
- Speaking in a video address, Netanyahu said: "I got today a full report about the [ceasefire] negotiation in Cairo; we are working to achieve our goals of releasing our hostages and have a complete win; this win must include entering Rafah. It will happen, and we have a date.”
- Although Netanyahu declined to disclose the date set for the operation, the statement appears to undermine recent positive sounds from ceasefire talks which pointed toward Israel's increased openness to compromise.
- White House spokesperson John Kirby told reporters a short-time ago that no Rafah operation is "imminent" suggesting that the operation could be a longer-term roadmap, set for after Israel has addressed US concerns over safeguarding Palestinian civilians.
- Axios noted a short time ago that Hamas is currently studying a ceasefire proposal which would see, "the release of 40 hostages held in Gaza in return for a six-week ceasefire," the longest pause in fighting since the war began.
- Axios adds that, "The deal would also include the release of at least 700 Palestinian prisoners, including more than 100 who are serving life sentences for killing Israelis."
