Netanyahu Tells White House He Wants To Reschedule Rafah Meeting - NBC

SECURITY

NBC News reporting that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has told the White House that he wants to reschedule this week's meeting on US proposed alternatives strategy to a ground invasion of Rafah. The meeting was cancelled by Israel in response to a US decision to abstain on a non-binding United Nations Security Council resolution calling for a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

  • Although US officials have downplayed the impact of the cancelled meeting on US-Israeli bilateral relations, the meeting was highlighted last week as evidence that the Israeli government was prepared to listen to US concerns over a ground invasion of Rafah.
  • US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller is due to give a press conference momentarily. Miller will likely receive more robust questions for reporters on the threshold Israel must cross before the US begins conditioning military aid. If the Rafah meeting is rescheduled it will lower tensions between the governments of Israel and the US and allow additional time for talks. LIVESTREAM
