REFINING

New supplies of diesel from the expansion of the Exxon’s Fawley 270kb/d refinery in the UK will be available in Q1 2025 according to Bloomberg.

  • The $1bn expansion will initially be geared to production of diesel helping to reduce UK imports of the fuel.
  • The facility could be reconfigured to make conventional jet fuel or sustainable aviation fuel from vegetable oils at a later point as well as enable increased petrochemicals output.
  • The expansion will shift its production balance away from gasoline.
  • The expansion includes a hydrotreater and, plant to make hydrogen with daily capacity of 55m standard cubic feet to support diesel and chemicals output. A jet fuel pipeline expansion to Heathrow Airport is completed as part of the project.
