New Zealand Purchases More Vaccines

The New Zealand government has announced it has purchased additional 8.5m doses of Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, which means it now has vaccine supplies to cover the whole population

  • "This brings our total Pfizer order to 10 million doses or enough for 5 million people to get the two shots needed to be fully vaccinated against Covid-19" said PM Ardern in an statement.
  • The vaccines are expected to arrive during the second half of the year, and the inoculation programme is expected to start in the middle of the year.
  • NZD/USD not showing much reaction to the news, New Zealand has had a robust containment policy since early on in the pandemic. NZD/USD last down 3 pips at 0.7164.
