Newspoll Shows Gap Going Into NSW Election Narrowing

AUSTRALIA

Australia’s most populous state New South Wales goes to the polls on March 25 and the latest Newspoll survey for The Australian shows that the incumbent Coalition has 37% of the primary vote (+2 points) compared with Labor’s 36% (-4 points). This would result in a two-party preferred outcome of 52:48. If this is applied evenly across the state, there could be another minority government requiring support from independents or minor parties.

  • Premier Perrottet has increased his lead as preferred premier to 43% (+4pp) compared with 33% (-2pp) for the Opposition leader Minns.
  • 48% believe that it is time to give “someone else a go” compared with 36% who say “they deserve to be re-elected”. 16% are uncommitted.
