Njord Field Resumes Production After Upgrade

ENERGY

Production from the Njord field in the Norwegian Sea resumed on Tuesday and is ready for another 20 years according to Equinor.

  • The platform and the floating storage and offloading vessel were brought ashore in 2016 to be upgraded after 19 years of production.
  • The return to production was expected two years ago but was held up with a more challenging upgrade than expected, and due to covid delays. Capital expenditure increased from a planned NOK 17b to total just over NOK 31b.
  • “Our ambition is to produce about the same volume from Njord and Hyme as we have produced so far, more than 250mbbls of oil equivalent,"
  • 10 new wells will be drilled at Njord from an upgraded drilling facility, new discoveries have been made at the outer edges of Njord, and more exploration will be carried out in the surrounding area.
