North Carolina Congressional Map Could Flip Four Seats For GOP

US

North Carolina’s state legislature yesterday approved a new congressional map which could flip four seats to Republicans in 2024. The map, which Democrats argue constitutes an aggressive gerrymander to benefit Republicans, will significantly bolster the GOP’s chances on retaining control of the House and could offset Democrat maps currently under consideration in other states.

  • Politico reports: “The new map will remake the state’s delegation from an even split of seven Democrats and seven Republicans to one that would likely lock in 10 Republicans and three Democrats, with one competitive battleground seat that Democratic Rep. Don Davis currently holds.”
  • Democrat groups are expected to challenge the map in the state supreme court, but litigation is unlikely to prevent implementation before 2024.
