North Sea Gas Production Gains 26% H1 y-o-y: OEUK

UK gas producers boosted production by 26% H1 2022 vs a year prior according to Offshore Energies UK (OEUK).

  • It said the production boost meant roughly half of UK gas consumption was supplied by domestic production.
  • "If we are to continue our efforts to protect UK gas supplies, which remains the backbone of our energy mix for electricity, heating and industrial processes, we need politicians of all parties to support energy produced here in the UK," OEUK said.
  • New gas field start-ups in the southern North Sea (the most gas-prone part of the North Sea) including the Tolmount field and Saturn Banks project boosted UK production.
  • UK Government support for North Sea projects has made an about turn since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine has threatened the country’s energy security and sent prices soaring.
