Northern Ireland First Minister Confirms Resignation

Northern Ireland's First Minister and head of the Democratic Unionist Party Arlene Foster has confirmed that she will resign as party chief on 28 May, and as first minister one month later.

  • Comes following a rapid acceleration of a no confidence campaign against Foster amidst significant unionist anger at the Northern Ireland protocol in the Brexit Withdrawal Agreement, as well as a backlash from the socially conservative wing of the DUP, following Foster's abstention on a vote concerning banning gay conversion therapy earlier in the month.
