Norway’s Winter Security of Power Supply Ensured: NVE

Norway’s security of power supply for the 2022/23 winter period is ensured and the country will not have to ration power supplies, Norway’s energy regulator NVE said.

  • "Our analyses show that even with significant operational challenges in the Nordics, we will not end up in a rationing situation this winter," NVE director Kjetil Lund said.
  • Hydropower stocks had been replenished after production in southern Norway was at record low levels this autumn, while there was more rainfall than average.
  • Norwegian power prices in the more populous south are on track to more than double this year to around €200/MWh from €75/MWh in 2021. Historically, prices have averaged below €50/MWh for most years.
