Norwegian Hydro Stocks Widen Surplus to 5-Year Average

Norwegian hydropower reserves last week rose by 1.4 percentage points to 86.7% as of 18 October, widening the surplus the five-year average, NVE data showed.

  • This compares to a week-on-week increase of 0.7 points the week prior.
  • The surplus to the five-year average widened to 6.84 percentage points, compared with 6.70 points the week prior.
  • Hydropower generation in Norway declined last week on the week. Output from hydro reservoirs declined by 1.02GW to 10.21GW. Onshore wind output rose by 935MW to 2.44GW, Entso-E data showed.
  • Forecasts suggest little precipitation in the hydro-intensive region of Vestland for the remainder of this week.
