Notable Ministers Voice Opposition to Petro’s Health Plans

  • A number of key lawmakers across Colombia have voiced their opposition to Petro’s health reform plans. Ministers from the finance, agriculture and education ministries see Petro’s plans as falling short on constitutional and financial criteria, according to Cambio.
  • Most notably, the Finance Minister Ocampo has raised questions about the plans, having held a discussion about the proposed reform with the Health Minister and President. Ocampo stressed that any health plans must not violate fiscal rules, however the health minister supposedly argued that the costs calculated by other ministers were incorrect.

  • Approval ratings for Chilean leader Boric improved in a Mercurio poll published yesterday, with his approval rating rising by 2ppts to 32%. This is an improvement off the record low approval rating posted in January.
  • Chilean unemployment came in alongside expectations, rising to 8.0% from 7.9% in December.
