Negative day-ahead power prices reached around 150 hours in several different European countries so far this year, amid governments’ incentives for renewable energy production, energy analyst at the Albian Energy Ministry, Julien Jomaux, said via LinkedIn.

  • Dutch day-ahead power prices fell to the lowest in CWE Europe, while Spanish day-ahead negative prices remained close to zero so far this year (see chart).
  • Negative prices are largely appearing between 10:00 and 16:00, meaning they are largely driven by solar PV output, he added.
