KIWI: NZD the outperformer of the session so far, NZD/USD last up 26 pips at
0.7267. After dipping to 0.7231 in early trade NZD/USD caught a bid to rise to
session highs of 0.7283 - the highest since September.
- No significant catalysts during the session, at 2145GMT/0845AEDT New Zealand
Food Prices for December fell to -0.8% from -0.4%, but price action is contrary
to this number and the data point does not typically have an effect on markets.
- Move came as USD/JPY sold off, price action suggests lack of liquidity with US
markets closed for Dr. Martin Luther King Day.
- Positioning data from the CFTC COT report on Friday showed that speculators
trimmed net shorts in NZD to 23k, a 4.9k reduction.
