Object Found Near Bydgoszcz Was Likely Fired During Missile Defence System Test-RMF FM

POLAND

RMF FM radio reports that the object found near the city of Bydgoszcz in northern Poland is likely the remainder of a projectile fired during a recent test of a missile defence system that the country wants to buy for its army.

  • An area 15km from Bydgoszcz was cordoned off by law enforcement authorities after the discovery of an unidentified military object that fell on civilian ground. Military engineers and prosecutors headed to the site to examine the object.
  • According to RMF FM, it is unclear if the object was an anti-missile or its target, but it was likely fired during a military drill. The ongoing investigation aims at establishing why the projectile landed in a civilian area.
  • The radio station says that the tests were conducted as Poland seeks to accelerate modernising its missile defence capabilities amid the ongoing war in Ukraine. Last year, a stray missile crossed the border and killed two Polish civilians.
