Oman's Duqm Refinery Aims to Process Heavier Grades

REFINING

Oman’s recently inaugurated Duqm refinery may start processing more crude grades from the end of the year and studies are currently underway according to its CEO David Bird speaking with Reuters.

  • "That was thought of in the process of design, to make sure we could process some of the heavier, more sour crudes," Bird said.
  • The refinery is currently running at full capacity of 230,000 bpd and processing 65% Kuwaiti crude and 35% Omani.
  • "Towards the latter half of 2024 and beyond we will be looking at a full merchant refinery model of processing advantage crudes," Bird said.
  • Since operations at the refinery started last May, around 100 shipments of 4.1mn tons combined of oil products have been shipped globally.
