OPEC+ Members Continue To Publicly Support Move To Cut Oil Production

OPEC+

Sudan is the latest member of the OPEC+ group of oil producing nations to publicly state that the OPEC+ decision to cut oil production was "unanimous" and they "support the Saudi position."

  • Yesterday, a raft of OPEC+ members including the UAE and Iraq came out in support of Riyadh. UAE energy minister Suhail Mohamed Al Mazrouei said that the move was not motivated by politics: “I would like to clarify that the latest OPEC+ decision, which was unanimously approved, was a pure technical decision, with NO political intentions whatsoever.”
  • Iraq’s State Organization for Marketing Oil also released a statement reading that OPEC+ decisions are “based on economic indicators.”
  • The show of unity appears motivated by comments from US National Security Council spokesman John Kirby on Thursday alleging that "more than one" OPEC member had felt "coerced by Saudi Arabia" into the vote.
  • The US is shortly due to conduct a review into the US-Saudi bilateral relationship. A move that may fundamentally shakeup relations with Washington's closest Arab partner and by far the biggest purchaser of US arms.
