Opposition Leader Navalny Discharged From German Hospital

Charite Hospital in Berlin confirms that Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has been discharged following his poisoning with the nerve agent 'novichok' in August.

  • Statement from the hospital says that he could make a full recovery after spending several weeks in intensive care.
  • The poisoning of Navalny has become a major international issue, with Navalny and other opponents of Russian President Vladimir Putin domestically and abroad blaming the Kremlin for the poisoining.
  • In Germany especially there has been major focus on the Navalny poisoning, with some calling for the cancellation of the almost-complete Nord Stream II gas pipeline set to run from Russia to northern Germany. So far Chancellor Angela Merkel has resisted these calls, although has stated publicly she believes Navalny was poisoned by the Russian gov't.
