The opposition is looking to target Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications Minoru Terada after Economic Revitalisation Minister Daishiro Yamagiwa stepped down amid criticism over his ties to the Unification Church, Mainichi reports.

  • Terada is facing accusations of violating Japan's political funds law. The accusations have been doing the rounds over the recent days, with opposition lawmakers seemingly planning to turn the spotlight on the issue.
  • Yomiuri reports that the opposition is also planning to grill the government over the appointment of Daishiro Yamagiwa as head of a government COVID-19 panel. The ousted Economic Revitalisation Minister assumed the post jut days after leaving the Cabinet under pressure from the opposition and the wider public.
  • LDP sources told Yomiuri that the nomination for Yamagiwa was decided by the LDP's Policy Research Council. It reportedly wasn't clearly communicated to senior executives, including party President Kishida and Secretary General Motegi, highlighting coordination problems within LDP leadership structures.
