Orban Holds Talks With Argentina’s Milei; S&P Affirm Hungary's BBB- Rating

  • Prime Minister Orban met Javier Milei, Argentina's new president, for bilateral talks late on Saturday. The talks focused on political cooperation "in the interest of more effective fight against international leftist forces" as well as opportunities to further developing bilateral ties, MTI write.
  • Bloomberg report that Ukrainian President Zelenskiy attempted to persuade Orban to drop his objections to the start of European Union accession talks with Ukraine. The two leaders talked for 10 to 15 minutes on Sunday on the sidelines of Milei’s inauguration, according to a member of Ukrainian delegation.
  • Hungary's long-term foreign currency debt rating was affirmed by S&P at BBB- in a ratings review after hours Friday. The outlook remains stable. S&P projects the Hungarian real economy will expand by 2.6% in 2024 and average 2.8% growth in 2025-2026.
  • Representatives from the government and the banking industry are set to discuss the regulation of mortgage rates, according to Bloomberg. There are no major data releases on the docket today, or for the remainder of the week.
