A widely shared new surveyfrom ABC and the Washington Post has found that former President Donald Trump leads President Biden in a hypothetical 2024 matchup 51-42% - a huge margin which has not been reflected in other national surveys.
- WaPo/ABC: “Joe Biden’s job approval rating is 19 points underwater, his ratings for handling the economy and immigration are at career lows, a record number of Americans say they’ve gotten worse off under his presidency, three-quarters say he’s too old for another term and Donald Trump is looking better in retrospect – all severe challenges for Biden in his re-election campaign ahead.”
- The writers of the survey note that the results appear to be an outlier, cautioning that the margin between Trump and Biden may be due to “message sending” from Democrats unhappy with the prospect of a second Biden term, "...wherever they end up in more than a year, a substantial number of Americans today are taking the opportunity to express their displeasure.”
