Pakistan Fails in Long Term LNG Tender

LNG

Pakistan was unable to secure long-term LNG supply in a tender closing today, threatening to prolong the fuel shortage in the country.

  • No supplier participated in Pakistan’s tender to buy one LNG cargo every month for 4-6 years from 2023.
  • High demand from Europe is limiting spare global LNG supplies until the increase in global liquefaction capacity from US and Qatar between 2025 and 2027. The lack of near-term global LNG supply is causing significant harm to consumers, businesses, and economies in both emerging and developed countries.
  • Bangladesh has also indicated they cannot secure supplies until 2026 and Thailand have issued a tender with a start date not until 2026.
