Pakistan Seek Deferred LNG Payments with Qatar

Pakistan is seeking a deferred payment plan for LNG from Qatar bought under long term deals due to a balance of payment crisis and falling foreign exchange reserves.

  • "We've talked about a deferred payment plan ... or at least I've requested this ... and (Pakistan's) petroleum minister is doing negotiations and is going to do the talks," Qatari Finance Minister Miftah Ismail said over the weekend.”, adding "Deferred payment obviously would be enormously beneficial for Pakistan in the way of cash flows, but that is not the only discussion that we are having,"
  • Pakistan was forced for a second time this month to scrap an LNG purchase tender after they failed to receive a single qualifying bid for a July 3-4 delivery. There are few suppliers available to offer an early July shipment to South Asia.
