Parliamentary Committee To Debate Wind Farm Law, Unemployment Data On Tap
POLAND
- Poland's push for EU recovery funds continues, with a parliamentary committee set to debate legislation loosening the rules on building wind farms. Tweaking the current regulations, which establish prohibitive barriers to setting up new wind turbines on land, is one of the milestones for unlocking the funds. It has been unclear if changing the law on wind farms is one of the "super milestones," i.e. necessary conditions outlined by the European Commission. While some recent source reports suggested as much, DGP reported this morning that framing the wind farm bill as a super milestone could be the government's way of pressuring lawmakers to adopt it without delay.
- EU Minister Szynkowski vel Sek told Radio Zet this morning that the court bill and wind farm bill are the two final steps towards filing the first application for the payout of EU recovery funds. He noted that Poland could send the application once there is a clear chance of adopting the legislation.
- Poland will report its unemployment rate for December at the top of the hour. It is expected that the figure may have edged higher to 5.2% from 5.1% recorded in November.
