Pelosi: House In Session Until COVID-19 Aid Bill Agreed

Speaker of the House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) stated that the House would remain in session until a new COVID-19 aid bill was agreed to.

  • On a call with the House Democratic Caucus, Pelosi stated "We have to stay here until we have a bill," arguing she could not accept the 'skinny' aid bill put forward by Congressional Republicans.
  • The House had originally planned to end its session in early October ahead of the November 3 presidential election.
  • An extended session could cause problems for Representatives from marginal districts, who would prefer to spend October on the campaign trail.
  • Not clear whether Pelosi's claim means Representatives physically remaining in Washington D.C., given the advent of proxy voting during the COVID-19 pandemic.
