Pentagon Spox: No Hope For Ukraine Negotiations Right Now

US

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken has held a call with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba to discuss the escalating food crisis triggered by the Russian blockade of Odessa.

  • State Department: 'The Secretary and Foreign Minister Kuleba shared updates on efforts to resolve the global food security crisis caused by President Putin’s invasion, noting that the Kremlin continues to weaponize food and spread false claims about U.S. sanctions.'
  • Pentagon press secretary John Kirby has just confirmed that the US would not engage militarily to open the port of Odessa to release grain supply.
  • Kirby: 'The US military will not risk confrontation with the Russian Navy in the Black Sea in order to contest Russia's weaponization of Ukraine's food exports.'
  • Kirby also denied that the US is experiencing problems supplying the Ukrainian military with resources required to hold off the Russian operation in Donbas at his DoD presser.
  • Kirby confirms that the US sees Russia making incremental gains in Donbas but says 'we're almost 100 days into this, and Mr. Putin has achieved exactly zero of his strategic objectives.'
  • Kirby says that there is no diplomatic solution on the horizon: 'There doesn't appear to be any hope for negotiations right now.'
