Pheu Thai Ahead But Losing Ground To Move Forward

THAILAND

The latest Nida opinion poll taken over April 3 to 7, showed that support for the opposition Pheu Thai party had narrowed 2.85pp from the early March poll to 47%. It remains well ahead of other parties though but has lost supporters to another opposition party, the youth Move Forward party who are now on 21.85% up from 17.15%.

  • Pheu Thai’s PM candidate Paetongtarn remains the preferred prime minister with 35.7% but this is down on the previous survey’s 38.2%. Again support has shifted to Move Forward with their candidate Pita rising to 20.25% from 15.75%.
  • Current PM and retired army officer Prayut has 13.6% support down from 15.65% in the March survey and his United Thai Nation also saw a drop in the April Nida poll to 11.4% from 12.15%. According to the Bangkok Post, he said that he’s not concerned about the opinion polls and that “It's the right of people to choose who they will vote for and into whose hands they will place the future of the nation. It's totally their choice.”
  • The Bangkok Post reported that the Suan Dusi Poll taken last week found that 25% said that Pheu Thai’s Paetongtarn would be good at solving economic problems and improving people’s welfare. Move Forward’s Pita would be good at solving corruption (21%) and promoting education (22%).
