PM Calls For Action On Iran Nuclear Programme In Call w/Putin

Ofir Gendelman at the Israeli Prime Minster's office tweets: "PM Bennett spoke today with Russian President Vladimir Putin today [...] The two leaders discussed a number of issues, primarily matters of regional security. The two agreed on continued close cooperation in this area. The Prime Minister and the President also discussed security challenges in the global arena. Against the backdrop of the nuclear talks in Vienna, the Prime Minister stressed the importance of a strong and determined stance against Iran’s progress in the nuclear project."

  • Russia's influence seen as crucial on the Iranian nuclear programme with regards to talks in Vienna between Tehran and the signatories to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA). The Israeli gov't remains staunchly opposed to the JCPoA.
  • Bennett also accepted an invite to a meeting in St Petersburg with Putin following a previous bilateral in Sochi.
