PM Jansa To Meet UK Counterpart At 10 Downing St. Tomorrow

SLOVENIA

Cristina Gallardo at Politico tweets: "Slovenian PM Janez Jansa will meet Boris Johnson in Downing Street tomorrow. The two leaders will discuss furthering political & economic bilateral cooperation, recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic, Afghanistan, migration, cybersecurity, COP26 and EU-UK cooperation."

  • Jansa, who currently chairs the rotating presidency of the European Council, remains a controversial figure within the EU. His attacks on various media outlets and journalists have drawn criticism and comparison to other illiberal EU leaders such as Hungary's Viktor Orban from centrist and left-wing politicians.
  • For Jansa, meeting offers an opportunity to discuss issues with leader of a substantial economy with close ties to the US, while for Johnson the meeting is likely to prove one of few meetings with EU member head of gov't that is not seen as overtly 'anti-UK' (Jansa has previously called for the EU to be a looser organisation with little influence on social policy).
