PM Sanchez's PSOE Record Best Polling Result Since April

SPAIN

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez's centre-left Spanish Socialist Workers' Party (PSOE) recorded its best result since April in the latest CIS opinion poll as the country's strong vaccination campaign has seen COVID-19 cases slump and gov't popularity rise.

  • General election poll : PSOE : 29,6 % (+1), PP : 20,5 % (-2,9), Vox : 13,8 % (+0,2), UP : 11,3 % (+0,7), C's : 6,5 % (+1), MP : 3,3 % (-0,4). CIS, 13/09/21. chgs w. 15/7/21, 3,780 respondents.
  • The main opposition centre-right People's Party (PP) saw its polling support surge in mid-2021 following the strong result for the party in the Madrilenian election in May. However, this wave has subsided alongside the decline in COVID-19 cases and fatalities brought about by Spain's vaccination programme that now sits as one of the best in the EU.
  • The 20.5% recorded for the PP is the lowest support level for the party since another CIS poll carried out in early March.
