PM Solberg Concedes Defeat In General Election

NORWAY

Prime Minister Erna Solberg has conceded defeat in Norway's general election as she appeared before the Conservative Party's event, congratulating Labour leader Jonas Gahr Store "with what looks like will be a clear majority for a change in government".

  • The result was broadly expected as the Labour Party and its left-leaning allies have held a commanding lead in most opinion polls.
  • Labour's Store, who is poised to become the next Premier, said at a party event that in the coming days he will initiate talks with the Centre Party and the Socialist Left, "our preferred [coalition] partners". He is also ready to speak with the Greens and the Red Party.
