PM: 'There Is An Appalling Campaign Against Uighurs'

Responding to a question from Lib Dem leader Sir Ed Davey at PMQs, Boris Johnson says that 'there is an appalling campaign against Uighurs' in China's Xiangjiang province.

  • Davey asks whether UK should boycott the 2022 Winter Olympic Games in Beijing, PM: "we are leading international action to hold China to account - we are not normally in favour of sporting boycotts in this country."
  • Most domestic political pressure in the UK is for the PM to take a tough line on China re: human rights and Hong Kong.
  • However, PM clearly still wants to have a good economic relationship with China. On Monday to a roundtable of Chinese businesses, Johnson stated that he was 'fervently Sinophile' and determined to improve links with Beijing.
