Poland Accuses Russia Of Sabotage Actions, Econ Activity Data Eyed

POLAND
  • Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced that three more people have been detained in connection with the alleged Russian acts of sabotage, in addition to the earlier nine accused of an assault, arson and attempt at arson. He noted that the migration pressure on the Polish border with Belarus is not spontaneous, as over 90% of illegal crossings are committed by individuals with Russian visas in their passports. He cited intelligence collected by domestic and allied secret services, suggesting that there are several large, organised groups of migrants on the territory of Russia, which are deliberately funnelled through Belarus towards the Polish border.
  • Justice Minister Adam Bodnar said that Hungary was the only country at the meeting of the Council of the European Union yesterday, which raised objections to the proposal to terminate Article 7 procedure against Poland. Hungary has been arguing that the proposal is politically motivated and a "post-election gift to the new government" in Warsaw.
  • Statistics Poland will release the latest reading of consumer confidence index alongside the first batch of economic activity indicators for April at 09:00BST/10:00CEST. These will include wages, employment, industrial output and PPI. Consensus sees wage growth, which is the main source of concern for the NBP at the moment, accelerating to +12.5% Y/Y from +12.0% recorded in March.
  • The parliamentary Constitutional Accountability Committee will hold a preliminary debate on the proposal to refer NBP Governor Adam Glapinski to the Tribunal of State at 13:00BST/14:00CEST.
