Poland Submitted Request For German Permission To Transfer Battle Tanks To Ukraine

UKRAINE

Polish Defence Minister Mariusz Blaszczak tweeted the following this morning: "Germany has already received our request for permission to transfer Leopard 2 battle tanks to Ukraine. I urge the German side to join the coalition of states supporting Ukraine with their Leopard 2 tanks."

  • Polish government spokesman Piotr Muller had earlier suggested that Poland would send the request "in the coming days," likely together with a coalition of potential donors, which could hopefully include Germany.
  • German Defence Minister Boris Pistorius said today that there has been no change to Berlin's position on delivering tanks to Ukraine, but the decision will be taken "soon." He added that Germany will not "stand in the way" of states willing to donate their Leopard 2 tanks to Ukraine and encouraged them to start training Ukrainian crews.
