Poland to Prepare for Gas Rationing

Potential gas rationing in Poland has led industrial companies to prepare emergency plans according to Puls Biznesu newspaper.

  • Proposals are to allow firms to cut gas consumption while protecting key production and receive compensation when the system is under stress.
  • This would be like the demand side response mechanism in energy markets and is due to be published in several days.
  • Poland has been looking to diversify supply away from Russia and a long term supply contract with Gazprom is due to finish by the end of 2022.
