POWER: Poland's 2024 Auction Secures 8GW Capacity for 2029, URE Confirms

 Poland's December 2024 capacity market auction secured over 8GW of commitments for 2029, including 1.5GW from foreign entities, with total contracts for 2029 now reaching 20.36GW, final numbers from regulator URE show.

  • The closing price for capacity obligations was PLN 264.90/kW/yr (€62.17/kW/yr) for Polish physical units and units from the Swedish transmission area,
  • While foreign units in the synchronous profile zone were priced at PLN 247.87/kW/yr.
  • This is slightly up from the closing price for 2028 obligations for Polish units but sharply below prices for 2026-27 commitments (see chart).
