POWER: Poland's Feb Settles Up 1.5% On Week
POWER
Poland’s February continued to climb from the previous session, with the contract settling up by around 1.5% on the week, amid gains in European coal, while relatively unchanged emission prices had little impact. Average temperatures in Warsaw are anticipated to begin cooling from next week – which could lift demand higher.
- Poland Feb baseload power settled at PLN462/MWh compared to its settled price of PLN460.45/MWh on 23 January, according to data on Polish power exchange TGE.
- The contract reached its highest since 2 December 2024 at PLN463/MWh and higher than its settlement on 17 February at PLN455.29/MWh.
- EUA DEC 25 up 0.1% at 80.88 EUR/MT
- Rotterdam Coal FEB 25 up 0.5% at 107.3 USD/MT at 14:33 GMT
- The February contract traded 35 times in 49 lots from 47 lots exchanged in the previous session.
- The contract opened at PLN465/MWh – the high for the day – and dropped to PLN462.75/MWh and reached a daily low of PLN462/MWh at the end of the session.
- Average temperatures in Warsaw are forecast to begin cooling from 29 January at 8.9C to reach as low as 0.2C on 3 February, albeit, still well above the 30-year norm of around -0.9C for the same day.
- Closer in, the day-ahead dropped further on the day to PLN432.31/MWh for Saturday delivery from PLN456.64/MWh for Friday amid typically lower power demand.
- Wind in Poland tomorrow is also expected at a 56% load factor tomorrow from a 34% load factor today – contributing to the price fall.
- Looking slightly ahead, wind on 27 January (Mon) will be at 31% load factor – which may cap gains from rising demand from the weekend.
Wind will then be at 2-30% load factors over 28-31 January, with the lowest amount of wind estimated over 30-31 January.
