Poll-Leftist Boric, Conservative Sichel Still Favourites To Make 2nd Rnd

CHILE

Latest first round presidential opinion poll from Cadem shows leftist Apruebo Dignidad alliance candidate Gabriel Boric and conservative Chile Vamos alliance candidate Sebastian Sichel as the two favourites to make the second round of the presidential election. However, since the last poll, which was the first carried out since the leftist and conservative alliances elected their presidential nominees, support has risen for the frontrunner for the centre-left Constituent Unity alliance, Senate president Yasna Provoste.

  • Cadem/Plaza Pública poll: Boric: 32% (-4), Sichel: 32% (+2), Provoste: 17% (+3), J. A. Kast (PRCh, right): 9% (-1). (+/- vs. 21-23 July 2021). Fieldwork: 28-30 July 2021.Sample size: 703. Don't knows (24%) excluded.
  • While Boric and Sichel lead the way at present, the political upheaval in Chile in recent months and years leaves the contest wide open, with the potential for far-left and far-right candidates to act as spoilers to Boric and/or Sichel.
